The main aspect for Leeds Waste is based on the development of a sustainable supply chain mechanism for effective sourcing of recyclable paper. The next phase in this regard is related to logistics where the sourced paper will be transfer to the national and international paper recycling plants for the finished product (recycled paper).

We are pleased to offer a comprehensive recycling service which collects on average 50 tonnes of paper per month. Paper products such as copier paper, newspaper and magazines should be placed in re-usable woven polypropylene bags ready for collection. Cardboard can be bundled but smaller quantities can be bagged.

UK households produced 30.5 million tonnes of waste in 2003/04, of which 17% was collected for recycling. (source: defra.gov.uk) This figure is still quite low compared to some of our neighbouring EU countries, some recycling over 50% of their waste. There is still a great deal of waste which could be recycled that ends up in landfill sites which is harmful to the environment.

Paper Recycling Leeds

Biffa provide special bins and plastic bags that are designed for the collection of waste paper only within the office or work environment. As a guide we usually recommend one bin for every 4 members of staff.

The full bags are put into a separate colour coded wheelie bin and collected regularly for transportation to the nearest Biffa processing facility. The sorted and baled paper is then sent to paper mills for recycling.

As part of our service, we can carry out a no-obligation waste audit of your business. The audit can identify ways in which you could become more efficient in managing waste from your business by using Biffa as your complete waste and recycling service provider. More efficient waste management could help you to save money, as well as contribute towards a better environment for us all.
We also offer bespoke solutions where the key to a successful partnership is the effective day to day management of your requirements combined with a focus on reducing waste costs in the medium term.

Recycling is an excellent way of saving energy and conserving the environment.

Did you know that:
1 recycled tin can would save enough energy to power a television for 3 hours.
1 recycled glass bottle would save enough energy to power a computer for 25 minutes.
1 recycled plastic bottle would save enough energy to power a 60-watt light bulb for 3 hours.
70% less energy is required to recycle paper compared with making it from raw materials.
We as a company feel that not only are we moving in the right direction in being able to offer an even better waste management service to our existing customers and new ones in the future, but we are also contributing to helping the environment. If one recycled tin can is able to save enough energy to power a television for three hours our MRF will play a big part in the future of recycling and saving our planet.

Some Interesting Recycling Facts
Up to 60% of the rubbish that ends up in the dustbin could be recycled.

On average, 16% of the money you spend on a product pays for the packaging, which ultimately ends up as rubbish.
As much as 50% of waste in the average dustbin could be composted.

We also recycle lots of other waste types including

Glass Recycling

Did you know that the UK currently has one of the lowest glass container recycling rates in Europe, currently standing at around 50%. Pubs, clubs and restaurants throw away over half a million tonnes of glass bottles each year of which no more than 10% gets recycled.

Leeds Waste is trying to change that and is introducing a simple, convenient and cost effective way to recycle your glass bottles.

By introducing recycling into your business, you will not only be able to cut your waste disposal costs, but you will also be able to demonstrate a responsible environmental attitude and help the UK meet its recycling targets.

However large your business might be, our glass bottle recycling service can be tailored to suit your requirements.

Cardboard Recycling

We can provide colour coded and clearly marked containers to assist you in segregating your waste for recycling keeping it free from contamination. Container sizes can range from 1100 litre wheeled bins up to 26.8 cubic metres. Where volumes are sufficient, we can supply a range of equipment to enable easier and more cost effective handling of your cardboard, including mobile and static compactors, and baling presses producing bales weighing from 50-500kgs.

Also for those with much smaller volumes we offer a bundle collection service where tape is provided for you to keep your flattened card neatly stored ready for collection.
